Lisbon, 22^nd April 2026 – Start Campus, in collaboration with Porto Business School, is launching the START Rise Challenge, a national initiative created to identify startups developing Artificial Intelligence-based solutions in Portugal. The ambition is simple: to find projects with real potential, give them a platform, and connect them to an ecosystem that can help them grow.

At its core, the initiative reflects a broader ambition: to help connect Portugal’s emerging AI talent with the infrastructure, ecosystem and partnerships required to scale globally.

More than a competition, the START Rise Challenge aims to establish itself as a platform for visibility and activation within the AI entrepreneurial ecosystem, bringing together emerging talent, mentoring, exposure, and a stronger narrative around the importance of technological infrastructure in the growth of innovative businesses.

As the developer and operator of the SINES Data Campus – Europe’s largest AI-ready data infrastructure project – Start Campus is helping to lay the digital and energy foundations required to support the next generation of AI-driven companies. Through its ecosystem, including collaboration with global technology leaders such as Nscale and Microsoft, Start Campus is contributing to the development of a platform where innovation can move from idea to deployment.

The initiative will travel across several regions of the country, with events scheduled in Porto on 4 May at Porto Business School, in Braga on 11 May, in Faro on 18 May, and in Lisbon on 19 May, ahead of the national final, set for 29 May in Lisbon at the Portugal AI Innovation Factory @ AIhub by Unicorn Factory Lisboa. Applications are open until 30 April.

Through this challenge, Start Campus aims to support the development of more AI solutions from Portugal. The winning startup will have access to Microsoft for Startups benefits, including Azure credits starting at $100,000, access to Azure AI infrastructure and services, GitHub Enterprise, LinkedIn benefits, Visual Studio Enterprise, 24/7 Azure Standard Support, go-to-market benefits, and pairing sessions with Azure engineers, subject to the program’s eligibility rules and approval. In addition, the winning startup will become part of a network of partners, mentors and stakeholders connected to the initiative’s ecosystem.

Mais do que um concurso, o START Rise Challenge quer afirmar-se como uma plataforma de visibilidade e ativação do ecossistema empreendedor em IA, juntando talento emergente, mentoria, exposição e uma narrativa mais forte sobre a importância da infraestrutura tecnológica no crescimento de negócios inovadores.

A iniciativa vai passar por várias regiões do país, com momentos previstos no Porto, a 4 de maio, na Porto Business School, em Braga, a 11 de maio, em Faro, a 18 de maio, e em Lisboa, a 19 de maio, antes da final nacional, marcada para 29 de maio, em Lisboa, na Portugal AI Innovation Factory @ AIhub by Unicorn Factory Lisboa.
