Lisbon, 15 April 2026 - Start Campus and NOVA Information Management School (NOVA IMS) have launched a collaboration aimed at helping develop specialized talent in Portugal in areas directly linked to the operation of data centers, energy systems and critical infrastructure underpinning the emerging AI economy.

The initiative comes at a time when accelerating investment in AI computing capacity across Europe and globally is driving growing demand for professionals capable of operating, optimising and strengthening the resilience of the infrastructure that supports it. In this context, the collaboration between Start Campus and NOVA IMS aims to strengthen the connection between education, applied research and industry, focusing on an increasingly critical dimension of the digital economy: the physical infrastructure that enables AI systems to be processed, stored and scaled.

Start Campus is the developer and operator of the 1.2 GW SINES Data Campus, Europe’s largest and most sustainable AI-ready data infrastructure project. NOVA IMS is Portugal’s leading higher education institution specialising in data science and artificial intelligence, with a recognised track record in education, research and innovation. Through this initiative, students, faculty and the company will work together to address real-world challenges in digital infrastructure, energy and data.

With the goal of building a stronger link between education, employability and industry, the initiative includes the development of a tailored academic module designed in collaboration with Start Campus to address specific sector needs. Areas of focus will include topics such as data-driven infrastructure resilience and data-driven energy infrastructure.

The agreement also includes seminars, workshops and other joint initiatives, as well as dissertations, projects and internships with academic supervision, aligned with real challenges faced by Start Campus. NOVA IMS will also support the promotion of career opportunities among its students and alumni. In addition, the collaboration includes scholarships for students and the creation of a company-sponsored chair.

Lisbon, 15 de abril de 2026 – A Start Campus e a NOVA Information Management School (NOVA IMS) estabeleceram uma colaboração para a formação, em Portugal, de perfis especializados em áreas diretamente ligadas ao funcionamento de data centers, sistemas energéticos e infraestruturas críticas para a nova economia da inteligência artificial.

A iniciativa surge num momento em que a aceleração do investimento em capacidade computacional para IA, na Europa e no mundo, está a aumentar a necessidade de profissionais preparados para operar, otimizar e tornar mais resilientes as infraestruturas que a suportam. Nesse contexto, a colaboração entre a Start Campus e a NOVA IMS procura reforçar a ligação entre ensino, investigação aplicada e realidade empresarial, tendo como referência uma dimensão cada vez mais crítica da economia digital: a infraestrutura física que permite processar, armazenar e escalar sistemas de IA.

Enquanto promotora e operadora do SINES Data Campus, a Start Campus está a desenvolver aquele que é o maior e mais sustentável projeto europeu de infraestrutura de dados preparada para inteligência artificial, com uma capacidade total de 1,2 GW. A NOVA IMS é a única instituição do ensino superior em Portugal especializada em ciência de dados e IA, reconhecida pela sua atividade nas áreas do ensino, investigação e inovação. O acordo prevê ainda a realização de seminários, workshops e outras iniciativas conjuntas, bem como o desenvolvimento de dissertações, projetos e estágios com supervisão académica, alinhados com desafios reais da atividade da Start Campus, e a divulgação de oportunidades profissionais junto dos estudantes e alumni da NOVA IMS. A colaboração inclui também bolsas para estudantes e a criação de uma cátedra associada à empresa.
